On July 28, 2026, the U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) added foreign-produced mobile robots and networked power inverters to its Covered List. This means new models of these devices can no longer be imported, marketed, or sold in the United States unless they meet strict security requirements. The reason? National security concerns over cybersecurity risks.
It’s not about how well these devices work—it’s about what could go wrong if they fall into the wrong hands. Think of it like a smart lock on your office door: it’s convenient, but if it has a hidden flaw, someone could unlock it remotely without ever touching it. The FCC’s decision targets new models of two types of devices:
